Default 3" duals or 4" single exhaust?

getting rid of these shortys in the near future and getting some pacesetter long tubes. i can't decide if i want to go with 3" duals with an X-pipe or go into a single 4". i'm pretty sure i'm gonna use borla xr-1 mufflers either way. some of you FI guys, give me some suggestions.

well, it is all about flow area/flow rate.

4" pipe has a flow area of 12.56 in^2

Dual 3" pipe has a combined flow area of 14.14 in^2

That said, dual 3"

Unless all you need is 10"^2, then both would be overkill....

dual 3" has more frictional surface area than a single 4". Single 4" is lighter also(assuming same guage pipe).

I'd like to see some real world test one day about the dual 3" or single 4" arguement though. Anyone have a link to something on that subject?

Found a nice little chart for pipe sizes on Torque Tech's website.

I run dual 3" pipes y-piped into a 4" Magnaflow diesel muffler with a mandrel bent 4" diesel pipe to a 5" tip...best money I ever spent and it sounds like no other truck I have ever heard...very low pitch sound...loves setting off car alarms...go to the moves and I can get 5 or 6 going at one time

As mentioned above...lighter weight than duals and a single system keeps the exhaust temps a bit higher which helps on the flow as well.
