4. The exhaust and crossmember were built in my driveway and garage one week after buying a 14" chopsaw and MIG welder. I used that week to learn to teach myself to weld. It's pretty easy really. I figured there was no way I'd ever get an exhaust shop to be as meticulous with it as I wanted, so just bit the bullet and got it handled.

Does it do anything to hold the heat in?

I have 15,000 miles on this exhaust. It's holding up pretty well. No rust. The flanges are made from mild steel and will rust up with barely even high humidty without protection. The Zinc does a great job of preventing rust. The paint has a lot of Zinc powder in it. The can is actually quite heavy. After the coating is dry and has been through some heat cycles the finish takes on a chalky feel and will be sort of dusty. It seems like the water-based suspension material used to transport the Zinc powder sort of burns off.
There are better things to use on exhaust, the Cold Galvanizing Compund is cheap and works on everything.
