Default 224/224 in a 4.8?

I've got a bad itch to do something else to my truck. I will be transplanting an iron block ls1 in couple of months but can't wait. Tigerfan has a 224/224 cam that came out of his ls1 that has no mileage & is just sitting there on the ground. I am considering throughing it in this weekend just to see how the 4.8 responds to the cam.

I am not that concerned about low end loss being that I have another convertor (3500 stall) sitting on shelf. I can pretty much figure the tune out as well. I am just curious how the truck would respond with this large of a cam. anyone have any dyno #'s?

who has the largest cam in a 4.8?

I know 01 Thunder is running that cam with the 112LSA. He's pushing close to 300rwhp, which I think is awesome! Deckhand and I are running the 219/228-112 cam, aka the infamous hotcam. Personally I wouldn't go any bigger, because of mine being an EC and all, and I don't race it like most of you do. The exhaust duration is pretty long for a 4.8.

I've thought about trying the 224, so I say go for it. You can always take it out if you don't like it.

I think you'll like it. Thunder's was on a 'decent' tune at best. I know he had some other issues there too, but I think overall he was very pleased with the cam.

I say go for it ... it's not like you would be out 400 bucks, and the swap isn't that bad.
