Is a 220r enough

giant tires high stall small cubes, bad x3.the truck will be good at nothing
go as many cubes as you can afford 6.0 or a 408 ,mild cam .you will spend the same and get far more.

Don't listen to the bigger is always better responses you have been getting.
Go with a 220r or smaller, or get a custom grind. Personally I would go smaller then the 220r unless I was planning on racing it or WOT performance only.
The 220r is actually a healthy cam for a 5.3 truck. Not the baby cam everyone makes it out to be.
To many people base there cam choice of what the F-Body guys run in there light weight high reving LS1 track cars. You drive a truck with 35's you will benefit in every way from more TQ!
This is coming from a guy that runs a 215/222 115 LSA in one truck and a 270/278 110 LSA in the other.
I like big cams but they have their place, as do smaller cams.
Spec and choose the cam based off the truck and its intended use...

This truck almost never towes and if it does, i will be towing a empty cavalier dirt car down the street to the local clay track. After I do the install, which I will do myself, It will probably be a weekend warrior play car. I have 9 acres and about an acre of it is mud in my backyard that i tend to play around in. I dont mind running a higher stall, I had a ford lightning that was stalled at 3400 so a bigger stall doesnt bother me. Its just hard to decide where I want to go with this one so I appreciate all the input.

low rpm mud bogging needs a smaller cam. you need a stump puller, not a high rpm screamer. lets face it...35" tires with a 5.3. your truck will never be fast. that doesnt mean that it cant be fun to drive though.

what if i went with a higher stall? something like a 3600 and did the 224r? I know it will never be fast. especially compared to my old truck but i just want it to be able to get out of its own way and not be a complete dog everywhere. down the road ill do a 6.0 but that will be way down the road when i can afford to build the 6.0 and the trans.

I have seen big cams run circles around small cams at the track in fbody land. My old camaro with a lt4 hot cam would get its *** handed to it by my brothers cc306 lt1 formula. Every time I would pull him out of the hole and he would blow by me around the 660'mark. Mine was an auto with a stall and his was six speed with gears. I say go big and enjoy the rolling steam power.
