212/218 cam installed - stock heads (43rwhp gain!!)

We finished installing a Comp 212/218 cam in a customer's 2000 5.3l Silverado. The car baselined 246rwhp/301rwtq with the following mods:
- Airaid intake
- cutout
- Edelbrock headers
- no cats
- ASP crank pulley
- hpp3 tuning
- stock heads
We then installed the 212/218 cam, along with Comp 918s/stock retainers, and Thunder Racing 7.400" hardened pushrods. The truck REALLY woke up!! Here is the after dyno graph:

Needless to say, the customer is going to be extremely excited. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> The truck does have a slight lope, but nothing too drastic.
We hope to try out a Thunder Racing "truck" cam in another customer's vehicle in the coming weeks. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Dyno results will soon follow. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Jason, how you think that cam or your "Truck" cam would do in a mild 6.0? by mild i mean stock heads, stock manifolds, no muffler, FIPK, and a HPP3.

how much did all that cost? also is it necessary to install new pushrods? i really want to do a cam but like a lot of people here, i am on a budget. thanks

OK, since I tow a 6200# trailer several times a year, how do you think this will act for towing? I see you lost a little torque. With my 4.8, I can't afford to loose there. This kind of gain on stock heads, may change my mind a little on the pending stroker build. That is just a bit more than the cam I was planning. Hold the phone, I just looked at my notes and That is the cam I was planning Cool <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> Is it also a 522/529 with a 114 LSA ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

It looks like the comp cam XR265HR-14
I have been thinking about that one too. The 114 LSA has to be better than the LS6's 116, but that dyno graph looks like low end torque will be lower than stock too.
Wouldn't you for once like to see a dyno graph that goes below 3500 rpms? Sure the upper stuff feels good, but I spend most of my driving below 3000.
Jason, can you do one more dyno in 1st, so we can see the whole chart? Numbers wont be as high, but the curves should be similar.

Looks like the truck really woke up above 4K! I would like to see the torque curve under 3K though. You cant just assume that the Torque droped that much due to the max numbers because the stock torque spikes at the begining of the run and that is were the 301 max comes from. Looks like it may stay right with stock up to 4K.

unless you have a "tranny tricker" or lock third gear up in LS1 edit, the vehicle will downshift based upon load and rpm. Thats the plight of an automatic on the dyno...no sub shift point WOT numbers.
