Tuning isn't just for fuel economy, actually there's a separate apparatus that is attached to the O2 sensor and will determine if you're running too rich or too lean, it will then ask you what you want your air/fuel ratio to be, it's called (Power Enrichment)...The tuning will add or remove pretty much anything you want including torque management, rev limiter, top speed, and it will even scan your system for any error or bugs...handhelds hold nothing for this type of tuning, the difference is so much that comparing them would be meaningless...If you really want some performance, you'll go for it and spend the money

Oh.. thanks for the lesson on how tuning works...

Anyway, if you read he says hes looking for a relatively simple way to increase fuel economy, hes not looking to go fast. LXLAW has a 10 second mustang.. , he dosent want to spend alot of money on his truck for minimal gains. Yes tuning does help alot, but I personally wouldn't spend the money it costs to get a truck tuned without any modifications. And his truck a 5.3L.

What kind of truck do you have? when did you get it?

See my sig page for my modest mods. The Corsa added a tad and the AirAid is to new to tell but my DIC readout has not changed.

I had a nelson tune in my 03 and it helped mpg also. What motor do you have. L33 or the LM7. Look at the glove box label for the RPO and the gear ratio RPO as well.
I have 3.73 in my new 05 RCSB 5.3
