I couldn't justify spending 500 bucks on tuning, just for fuel economy.
I wouldn't suggest UPD cold air intakes, AT ALL!

I would probably just get a K&N CAI, maybe a cat-back... and a handheld of some sort.

Well, i guess it seems plausible for someone with a 4.8 to get something a little more economic. I suggest going for it and spend the money, you won't regret it. Tuning isn't just for fuel economy, actually there's a separate apparatus that is attached to the O2 sensor and will determine if you're running too rich or too lean, it will then ask you what you want your air/fuel ratio to be, it's called (Power Enrichment)...The tuning will add or remove pretty much anything you want including torque management, rev limiter, top speed, and it will even scan your system for any error or bugs...handhelds hold nothing for this type of tuning, the difference is so much that comparing them would be meaningless...If you really want some performance, you'll go for it and spend the money

Default 3.73's in an 05? What kind of truck do you have?

The 3.73's were supposed to be deleted as standard alowing for the 3.42's or 4.10's to be the only options?
What kind of truck do you have? when did you get it?

See my sig page for my modest mods. The Corsa added a tad and the AirAid is to new to tell but my DIC readout has not changed.

I had a nelson tune in my 03 and it helped mpg also. What motor do you have. L33 or the LM7. Look at the glove box label for the RPO and the gear ratio RPO as well.

Neither could I...but I did get a great tune from Wester's Garage for considerably less than that. TByrne had a special purchase on these recently at a great price. Thanks again, Lyndon!

My truck is a 2 wheel drive, standard gear was a 3.23 or upgraded to a 3.73, the 4x4 has a 3.42 with an opt. 4.10. I have the iron block motor, i dont have the truck right now the wife has it. But if ya look at the brochure for 05 like the one i got it tells you the same for the gear ratio i am telling you. I dont have the all aluminum motor.
