Which would rather have a Chevy 2004 r/c s/b 4.8 standard, or a 2004 r/c s/b 5.3 auto. Which is faster, heavier, ect......

5.3LITER!!!
The weight difference between the 4.8 and 5.3 is basicaly zero.....same block/heads/etc...just a crank for a few lbs.
The weight difference between an auto and a manual is going to be something (I would think the auto will be heavier) but not a big deal
The big difference is going to be the manual has less drivetrain loss. If your really looking to go fast (which I can't for the life of me see in a truck
) and don't mind shifting, then the manual is the way to go. With that said, at the strip the auto will shift faster (if you do a shift kit), be easier to launch (better 60' and ETs), and be more consistant.
Manual = "faster" (higher MPH and from a roll)
Auto = "quicker" (better ETs and jump off a light)
I have an 04 5.3 auto LS and I really like it! Make sure you get all the options like 3.73s, limited slip, the tranny cooler, etc.....anything that you can get already on the truck puts you that far ahead.

sorry no sound clips, I wish some one would come over and do it for me. I am not a computer guy except I can type. Yeah I wouldn't get the 4.8 just for the fact it is the same weight(unless you want a 5 speed) personally both the auto and the 5 speed have problems with not being able to handle hp and tq over about 450. As many people will tell you on here you can rip them out driving stock. I ripped my first one out in a 96 chey fullsize with a v6 at 30k... I have also killed on of my friend 99 with a 4.8 at around 40k. no matter what I would go with the 5.3 and me and Demon need to race!

my step dad has a 2000 4x4 long box with 4.10's and a 4.8 with 5 speed. against a 5.3 auto truck it holds it's own pretty well, but is a tick behind. mostly the problem with the 5 speed trucks is the nv3500 they use. another friend has a 4.8 5 speed 2wd short box with 3.73's that will run with a 5.3 truck for the most part, but that trans just doesn't allow for fast enough shifting. it's terribly syncronized and as far as i'm aware doesn't handle power all that well.
