Gearing multiplies the torque of the engine, the higher the number numerically, the faster the truck will get moving. It will raise the cruise rpms and reduce top speed. Does the rear axle have the G80? You'll need that or a limited slip to get some traction. What size tires are you running?

My $.02:

My '02 5.3 dyno'd 204whp stock against a 290hp factory rating: -86hp

I did this work over 8yrs ago, so take that into account, and I did everything myself except the tune:

212/218 .550/.550 112 cam: $150 (new in box, bought "used")
LS6 Springs: $50
Gaskets: $20
Tune: $375+$100+SD OS fee to unlock via HPT
TSP 1-7/8 LTs: $440
3.0 Y, 3.5 out the back: DIY, ~$150 materials
eBay 4" Intake: $40
4.10s from 3.73: $600 (oem diff swaps)
E-Fans: $250ish

New dyno is this config: 302whp (+86 for loss= ~400hp 5.3). Cost: 2175. Stock 4L60, stock converter, I also moved from OE 29s to 33s between dynos and with all the mods

If you have to farm out the labor the budget shrinks quite fast.

Did you say 15 - 20 over the speed limit? To be honest that's like a heroin junkie saying "just a taste today I'll save the rest for tomorrow" Horsepower is that addictive!

Headers & camshaft gets you into the sweet melody at the stoplight. Gears & stall converter gets you on your way. 150 shot of Nitrous fulfills the adrenaline rush when needed. Most projects snowball above budget, one upgrade leads to another, another, and...

Not gonna lie, kinda glad the septic took my header money. The thought of filling up with 93 at the moment sickens me.
