1998 LS1 Cam in a 5.3 truck
#1
I've got a stock 1998-2000 ls1 cam and am wondering if it's worth the time to swap into my 5.3. Has anybody used one in a in a 5.3 liter truck engine. I'm looking for an increase in low end and mid range torque for towing.

OK, I have to ask this a different way. Has anybody actually tried and checked what gain they have seen. All the cams being recommended and the "torque cams" out there are not that far off from the 202/210 .496/.496 116lsa of the early ls1 cam (the 2001-2002 cams were actually smaller). Like I said the cam is here and it was pretty much free, I would think it has to be a step up over the 190/190 .466/.457 116 lsa stocker.
Right now the truck has a newer style (the learning version) Wait4Me tune and a VaraRam intake on it. When I have time I will try to have it chassis dynoed both with and without the tune, see where it is at and then try the cam swap and have it re-dynoed with both computers.

Um those cams are alot bigger than the stock ls1 cams look those cams up and notice the difference in lift they offer. I have raced firsthand against a guy with an ls1 cam and it was nothing special. He gained 9 rwhp from the cam but that was peak HP. He wasn't happy with it at all.
Yes it is a step up from the stock cam, but it's not really worth your time IMO.
