Default 1996 5.7 Tahoe vs. 2003 5.3 Yukon *RESULTS*

Some of you saw my post from here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143272

1996 2 door Tahoe 4wd, 5.7, 3.42's, 285mm BFG All Terrain's, K&N FIPK, HPP3

2003 4 door Yukon 2wd, 5.3, 3.73's, UPD intake, !maf screen, HPP3, stock tires

We ran 3 times this weekend. Very even starts due to our patented staging techniques and starting truck behind us (flashes lights, etc.)

1st two runs were from a stop, I pulled about a car immediately after the launch, maybe another one through 1st gear, then brought it up to numerous car lengths by the time I got to over 100.

3rd run was from a 20roll, I was locked down in 1st and my truck LOVED that hit, reacted very well to pretty much the same results.

Next planned mods are cutout and maybe some little things (take out the spare tire, etc.).

My tires had LOW psi in them (maybe 25ish or so, it's been cold here lately and I didn't have a chance to air them up) and my low fuel light was on, so that was good for me weight wise.

Any thoughts?

I'm not surprised. I knew you'd walk him. The 4x4's don't run like the 2wd when modded to the point you both are, and the 4x4 really doesn't have enough gear for those big tires. Is the 96 a Vortec motor? Congrats on the win!

96 was the first year for the Vortec.

Sounds like my 99 OBS 5.7 Tahoe would be competitive with you. When I raced my friend's 00 Z/71 we were even to like 50 mph and then he pulled like 5 on me to 90mph. That was when I just had a catback and still had 3.08 gears.

the gears killed him. 4.10's would have been alot better suited to those tires. i remember changing from the 245's to the 265's on my dad's yukon. with a 3.73 posi, i used to be able to break em loose all the time. not with the 265's. i can only imagine what a dog it is with that short gear and tall tire

Yeah I think we would be a good matchup PSJ.

I agree, and you're right, there is a reason I waited a little while for him to get his 285's on.

I love gear and would like to do 4.10's at some point to our truck but that is waaayy down the road. A cutout first, then some lightweight stereo mods.

I almost did 4.10's in my OBS Tahoe but I was fearful of the drop in gas mileage. I did the 3.73's.

Sounds good, I might try and find a junkyard rear that already has the 4.10's in and just swap it in for a while to see how the mpg reacts. With prices lately on gas, that is a consideration for us (we put 12k miles on the truck and have not owned it 6 months yet)
