Yeah, you can pull the little baffle in the air-box (on the fenderwell) out. It's shaped like an hour glass and restricts the air somewhat. Other than that there is not much for free mods. The TBI's where just not designed to make hp, they were made for torque. Their heads suck, and so does the throttle body. The cam is only like .380ish lift. I had a 1992 TBI w/ 4.10's, Hooker LT's, no cat, true duals, hypertech chip, and the K&N and it ran 15.20's. I then put a crane CompuCam in .210/.216 .440/.454, th350 trans w/2200 stall and shaved the heads .030" and it ran 14.60's. It got out quick but made no power after 5000 rpms even with the cam.

The black box on the pass. side fenderwell that has the hose going to the air cleaner assembly. It's inside the black box.

On mine, there was a restriction in the air box on the fender and inside the fender. Remove them both. Also you can add some base timing. Stock is 0*, try going to 6*. I went to 12*. If you go too high, it will ping at higher rpm. Just set it back down and run premium. Adding a little timing is easy and will make it a lot more responsive. GM sets the timing for the guy who tows a boat up a mountain on a 110* day. In other words extremes.

Hmm, how about flipping the air filter lid? I've got a friend that thinks it works, it's worth a try..

Edit: Am I right on this or am I thinking about the older models?

flipping the lid is a great mod actually. there's a few other low budget mods available too. Bumping up the fuel pressue with a 60 dollar regulator. air flow in the throttle body will increase like 40 cfm if you put on a 20 dollar injector pod spacer. edelbrock makes an intake manifold that actually compliments a cam swap and high flowing exhaust well. And only thing needed to tune a cam swap, is fuel pressure. i had a tbi truck in the high 13s with the same exact cam that rhino said he ran. But mine was in a 305. So in all honesty, imo for what it's worth he may have undercammed. Mine loped pretty good, but not too hard, and was totally drivable, and tuned super easy. a chip usually is around a hundred bucks, and compliments the entire setup.

i have an edelbrock intake manifold, fuel pressure regulator, spacer, and intake higher pressure pump, all for sale. As well as a set of stainless headers for the edelbrock tubular system, but no y pipe for 'em. I can cut you awsome deals on all of it, if you want. PM me. Also, summit grinds the exact cam as that compu cam, and it can be had with lifters, for 80 bucks. TBI is super cheap. But it has limits. Really it's not worth doing anything more than i just listed. And the heads have a cfm flow restriction at 4200 rpms due to a ramp in the intake runner, which creates a "vortec" like swirling in the combustion chamber. This is early vortec technology, and creates awsome off idle power and torque, but no higher rpm horsepower. A tbi truck will never need a stall converter or gears. 3.42 is the optimum for a 5 speed truck, and 3.73 for an auto.

this is a quick tbi summary, from my experiance. I have tons more info if you want more......

I had the stock intake and stock springs on that cam and it didn't lope at all. I went too conservative with it because at the time I was so unfamiliar with fuel injection. The flippin the lid mod does work and I forgot all about that. The fuel pressure regulator works well too. I just use two gasket and longer bolts to space my injector pod up. I've had many of the same experiences and same views as LoudAzz. I have had 2 TBI trucks that I modded, the one I listed earlier and another that I did not change the cam in but I had an Edelbrock TBI intake and nitrous on it. They love nitrous, a lot.
