Yes, Our N/A engines like some heat, not too much! At 160* your engine is cooler than it is at 180*sooo the cooler the motor the more fuel it can consume per cylinder The funny thing is you will not notice any gain from this added fuel. So if you go 180* you will have the same performance as a 160 stat but you will not lose the fuel economy.
So i guess your wondering why they even make a 160* for our trucks, If you are FI then the 160 is best because of the higher compression from the boost.

I had the 180* stat for a little while and it did very little as far as bringing down engine temps, this was with the factory fan clutch. With efans and pcm tuning you can get some benefit from the 180* stat though. I later swithced to 05 efans, 34" rad, and the appropriate PCM tuning. I didn't lose any mpg, but my pcm has been tuned for the 160* stat My trans temps have cooled down considerably, I believe that Bryan (PCMforLess) has bumped my timing up (have to do some logging), but I know that I have more power since my 05 efan and 34" rad install along with the pcm retune, and I'm not experiencing any of the overheating problems that quite a few members with e-fans are struggling with this summer. I was sceptical about switching to a 160* stat in a fuel injected engine at first too, but now I'm convinced that it's a worthwile mod when combined with efans and proper tuning. On a vehicle with the factory clutch fan, I don't see how it would be worth it. The cluch fan is going to operate the same way it did before, and all you'll have is a t-stat that opens sooner. It will still heat up to almost the same temp as the factory stat in the summer. In the winter in cooler climates, you'll just notice more inconsistent temps than anything else, but you'll notice that the heat comes up faster (contrary to popular belief), since the stat opens sooner allowing the coolant to circulate through the system sooner. Some say that the heat doesn't get as hot as it used to, but in NJ winters, where it can often go below 0*F, I still don't run the heat on full blast and usually end up moving the hot/cool blend control once the heat has come up.

Basically, in my opinion, on a stock or lightly modded truck, the 160* stat isn't worth it. If you're gonna be doing efans, or bumping up compression, or going FI, or would like to squeak out as much timing advance as possible before detonation occurs, then go for it.

My experience proved that you can't hold 160*. And, I'm having no problem holding to 180*. Running 5500 cfm dual fans.

My truck runs about 175-178* consistently. Fans are set at 180* on and 173* off. In the summer, once they come on (low), I don't usually hear them turn off though. Not sure if they do when I'm cruising down the highway or not, but by the time I'm stopped, they're on. I could always wire in an led to let me know when the fans are on if I ever feel up to it...
