Default 1/8 mile times

I am going to run my truck friday night at a nearby 1/8 mile track. What do you think a 01 scsb 5.3 should run. The only things I have done to it is hypertech,magnaflow,160 stat, upd, and will be running on stock steel wheels. Do you think it will help to remove the spare tire or will I just spin more.

Put extra air in in the front tires about 45lbs to help your rollout reduce air pressure in the rear tires to reduce wheel hop.Take out the spare tire and anything else you can to help your power/weight ratio.Use enough wheelspin to keep from boging and move your 1st-2nd ahift point up about 4 mph over stock to get into the 2nd gear powerband sooner. If you're running an open rearend run lower pressure in the drive wheel than the other one.Leave on the last yellow light to speed your reaction time. You should turn times in the 9sec range in the 1/8mi you can win a lot of races with a slower car and a good reaction time.

I noticed what you said about moving up the 1-2 gear shift up 4 mph. Would this be a good idea to try on my 03 5.3L, when running the 1/4 mile?

I have a predator and am sure I can adjust my shifts accordingly BUT it would be great if you could give me some advice. If you think I should NOT play with the shift settings then just let me know. Thanks!

The transmissions in our trucks have a really low 1st gear with to wide a spacing between the gears, the trick is to rev high enough in first to get into the powerband in second without hitting the rev limiter in first gear.A little experimentation will be needed to correctly adjust the rev limiter and shift point. If you're running the 1/8th mi you will only need first and second gears.Set your shift point before you go to the track so you can concentrate on your reaction times. If you are running a 1/4 mile you will need to adjust your 2nd to 3rd shift higher with 3.73 gears the transmission will shift into 3rd just before the end of the 1/4 mile with 3.42s and a stock you'll go thru in second.
