Default '06 5.3 consumes 2 qts every oil change, need some advice

My brother has an '06 Silverado 4x4 with the 5.3. He told me its been consuming one to two quarts of oil every time he changes the oil. At first I thought it could be the PCV valve but the guy at Napa tells him that it doesn't have a PCV valve and that its integrated into the valve cover or something. Sounds like fubar to be me and i've only really messed with the 99-02 trucks so I'm turning to the experts here

It's not visibly burning oil, no giant blue clouds behind him when he's driving and it doesn't smell like its burning oil. So what do you guys think could be causing this? Thanks for looking.

Some of the LS motors have an oil baffle in the valve cover instead of an actual PCV valve. Pull the intake hose off the throttle body and open it and look in there with a flashlight and see if it is covered in oil. If it's not dripping oil anywhere, it's got to be burning it somehow and the PCV system would be a good place to start looking. Other than that, it could be the rings or valve stem seals, but that's pretty unlikely unless it's got a ton of miles on it.

I found this on another forum:

I had this same problem with my 2005 5.3. I'm not very educated when it comes to engines but in my own words, I found out from the dealer GM have a redesigned valve cover that prevents the oil from puddling up and baking instead of draining back down to where it is supposed to go. I called GM directly and they replaced my value cover with the new one even though it was out of warrantee. I told them that this was a design flaw, so I shouldn't have to pay to have it fixed. They agreed and called my dealer. After the replacement I still had the issue with my first oil change but I think it was due to them not replacing oil after the repair. After the 2nd oil change I didn't get my usual check oil light. So, I think this has fixed my the problem. Hope this helps. At the very least you should get a redesigned valve cover, if you play your cards right when talking to GM.
Does anyone have any information on this?

Hmmm. My 02 doesnt have the PVC system so I guess the previous owner had this taken care of for me. I always wondered why I didnt have one.
