i got a stock 04 z71 and i know its a heavy truck but i dont like getting smoked by a mustang GT ever. now my truck did fairly well against the mustang in my mind even though i never had a chance too beat him. what can you guys tell me to get this truck moving all i have in it right now is the 5.3 and a K&N airfilter factory specs at 300hp ? what mods can be done with out voiding the warranty?

Not much can be done to get you beyond safe from Mustang GTs and not take the chance of voiding your warranty.
The only things that will get you close is:
Longtubes (illegal in most staes)
Cam (could void your motor warranty)
TQ Converter (could void your trans warranty)
Custom Tune (easy to put back to stock so wont effect warranty)
ASP Pulley
That would put you in the low 14 high 13 range on average which is good enough to put you neck and neck with most Mustangs with decent drivers.
If you want you can always add nitrous on top of this since it is so easy to remove for warranty work. This would put you into the high 12range I would think depending on the shot.
The warranty is the hard part of this equation. The HP is easy to figure out. I've done it

it totally depends on how you look at it, a stock gt is running in the low 14's to high 13's with good driver. Is your truck a regular cab or standard? first I would start off with a exhaust(magnaflow) then tune, unless you want to give it some boost. Really to get down their under warranty you really need to get a supercharger, or turbo. i would recommend the radix or the sts turbo for being very nice kits and coming as a complete kit. It all depedns on how much $$ you have an if you really want to keep your warranty and how well you know your service manager.

Most forms of FI are going to get you laughed at by the service manager if you walk in and expect to get something fixed under waranty. LOL
BUT in some rare cases there have been dealerships that have looked the other way. Just don't expect to get a melted pistons or a blown trans fixed if you have a blower of turbo on the truck.
If you wanna do it the simplest way and best bang for buck. Buy the Radix or STS and if you have a problem simply remove it beofre you take it in for work. The STS can be disasembled in hours and put back to stock. Not sure how complex the Radix is.
For what it's worth my truck only went in for warranty work once in it's 86k mile lifetime.

No way is a programer or even a custom tune going to get you inline with a Mustang either
You truck runs a best of 15.8-16.0 stock and they run low 14s-high 13s like stated above. Not counting Mach1s, 05' Mustangs, or Cobras, etc.
