Default '03+ TB blade drilling?

I'm itching for a mild cam, but adding EDIT to the cost of hardware for the cam-install will double the price to about $1400. It'll be even longer before I can spend another $500 on EFI Live to tune.

I know the preferred method of tuning idle is something like the IAC park position and what not. Can I get past mild idle issues by drilling the TB, just like the '02- trucks do?

Can I pick up another TB blade at the dealer, if/when the time comes I want to do things 'the right way'?

It depends on what you call a "mild" cam. If its a comp 212/218 115 high lift, you probably won't need any custom tuning to have it idle and run OK. No need for drilling the TB. You will however benefit from higher shift points.

Still working out something between a 212/218 high-lift on a 114 as the most mild, and a TR220-112 as the most radical. Kind of leaning towards a 216/220-114 high lift this week.

I realize anything under a 114 is most likely going to need help at idle. Just thinking that if I go mild enough, that I could get a little lazy with the tuning (Edit in general) for the time being.

Let me give you an update on the 212/218-114 high lift cam I installed in my 6.0 with all the bolt on's, this might help you make up your mind. I,m very happy with the improved power from idle to 5900 rpm's, my hypertech will only allow it to shift a max rpm of 5850 or 5900 rpm's (not sure, like to have my eyes on the road not the tachometer) on the 1-2 shift. I,m glad I went with this cam instead of the 216/220, b/c I don't think I would be able to get the full benefits of the 216/220 with the Hypertech limiting my shift points. You have the better flowing heads, so maybe the 216/220 would be better for you, but you would probably want to raise the shift points a little above 6000 rpm's. Also, I would not want to trade the low end torque I have for high end horsepower that the 216/220 would be more in favor of.

Thanks a lot for the update... I appreciate it.

Since installing my exhaust and a simple set of plug wires, my lowend power and throttle responce (light pedal, under 3,000rpm) has been awesome. (I'm quite surprised at this, honestly)

I'm actually REALLY addicted to it now, so I may have to re-evaluate everything, and go with the exact specs, or at least similar to what you went with. I'll probably have to make the call after I put in the 2600 stall to be sure.

I don't know if this indecisive thing is good or bad just yet...
