Default 03 6L - cai questions

not new to the performance arena.

but i'm looking into a decent but affordable CAI for my father's 6L truck.

i realize most CAI are basically the same, and its splitting hairs trying to say one yeilds more gains than another.

however i am wondering if there are any that i SHOULD NOT get? i made a mistake years ago on my old LT1 and got about the worst cai out there.

is there much power to be gained from upgrading the air duct? or would just the air box work well...such as the Airaid unit?

is the 1-2mpg fuel economy boost real world? or just crap?

is the volant worth the extra $40?
is the K&N unit just as good?
will the airaid box yield nearly the same results?

IMO i would just get a drop K&N filter, and an AirRaid tube and call it a day. Maybe cut a hole in the bottom of the stock box. Just my .02......

a tune for that truck would be the best mod . . . .

any CAI that's not metal will work.

tune is out of the question...its my dad's truck....and mods like that won't fly with him.

he wouldn't even think of the CAI...its my idea...to save him some gas money towing and around town.

so any noticable gains in power or fuel economy after the installs??

the GMPP CAI looks great, but it's not all that great performance wise. Those metal covers/piping get hot while in traffic, and then just stay hot. Get something that's plastic vs metal.

Even though I have a 4.8 and not a 6.0, I was getting 17-18 stock with it. Now with a tune, efans, shift kit and a K&N drop in filter I'm getting 20-22 on the freeway. That's where most of my driving is at.

Now with the built 6.0, 4L60e that I used to have, I was getting 17-18 with it.
