4.8 and 5.3 only difference is a larger stroke...............be cheaper to get 5.3 rods and pistons imo

and a 5.3 i nothing like an old 327

The 04 5.3 is rated at 295 HP i believe.

The 10 Hp In The New 05 Truck Is From The Ele Fans. A 5.3 Is Not To Bad I Went 12.72 @ 105 And Some Change With Stock Heads.i Am Putting A New Trans And 3 Angle Valve Job Heads With Some 5.7 Valve In 5.3 Heads Shaved .35 Ths. If I Would Have A 6.0 To Give You And Idea It Would Be About 1/2 Sec. Faster To 8 Tenths.depending On Were You Are Location.i Would Have To Weight Out The Price To Build Both Motors And Decide How Fast Do You Want To Go How Much Do You Drive For Mileage
