Default '01 yukon fuel problem.... Ideas?

Last night the wife pulled in the driveway and was talking to herself about something when the Yukon died. She said it had 1/2 tank of fuel when it died but I wouldn't bet on it. She put 5 gallons of gas in it from a can in the shop and it still wouldn't start.

When I got home I put a fuel pressure gauge on it, it shows ZERO. I can't hear the fuel pump running when she turns the key on.

I jumpered the fuel pump prime terminal (underhood fuse box, beside the fuel pump relay) to 12v positive. It arced (sparked, smoked, got hot).

The fuel gauge also reads EMPTY, like way below the red. It shouldn't be that low, because I know it has at least 5 gallons in it.

She also had the oil changed/tires rotated at WalMart yesterday- right before this happened. Coincidence?

Any thoughts?
thanks

I don't think it is a coincidece that you took it too Wal-mart. I had my fuel pump replaced in Oct. of 2003 I think, due to a winey noise when the tank is low. But as far as pressure goes, it ran fine. I have heard around the rumor mill that these pumps are somewhat lacking in quality. Hope this helps. Sounds like a bad pump to me.
