Default '00 vs later year PCM's

Greeting gents! Long time...

Anyways...I'm finally going to go the personal tune route with HPtuners.

Since there's been some talk recently of the '99 PCM's vs '02 PCM's in their false knock characteristics, I thought I'd post to see if I could get some elaboration. First off, I am getting some some intermittent knock retard and about 7* at WOT. Is my '00 PCM a possible conflict like the '99's? Heck, what is the difference is between the years of the PCM'? Different hardware and/or paramaters?

I've had a few Wester's tunes and still no joy, hence the time for HPTuners. I don't even now what year PCM I have, I can just assume it's an '00. If it's worth upgrading to an '02 PCM I'll do that. From what I understand, HPTuners is year specific from the VIN of the vehicle. Correct?

Talking

i thought that hp tuners would tune all in that year. not just one vehicle. could be wrong. on the 02 pcm's i was in the understanding that they ran the best.

obx,

where are you seeing 7* of KR, throughout the entire w.o.t. period?

I have a '00 and mine seems to work fine.

If you could, post up a scan.

I'm having the same problem. I've been fighting the knock issue sense i had The STS on my truck. I'm waiting on my 43lb injectors to see if thats solves the problem. If it doesn't I'm getting an 02 PCM from Allen Nelson. He was telling me that he can get more timing out of an 02 Pcm than an 00 PCM on the STS turbo setup. As far as the difference between the two, i don't know but it can be done.

From what I've read here, the 99-00 PCM's seem to have the false knock issues. I never had a real problem until my cam and spring install, then after that, 7.9* just about every time I go to WOT, and anywhere from 2 to 7* at partial throttle. I haven't found out what the real issue is, whether it's a parameter, or circuitry, or what, but many have solved their problems by switching to the 02 PCM, Creederado an 99silver5.3 to name a few. I also haven't heard anything about the 01 PCM, not sure if it's like the 99-00's, the 02's, or totally different.

Hmm,

How much do new pcm's cost?

Then, I wonder how HP Tuners would handle the issue. You'd have get a new version wouldn't you?

I think that 99silver5.3 got a used one for around $60. I've seen them on other websites for around $200. Not sure about the HP Tuners though.

I'm getting about 7.93* of knock at WOT. Intermittent knock is about 3.43*. I'll see it a bit during the upshifts from 3rd to 4th when the TC locks up and she's in OD. I'll also notcie it jump in there above ~35% throttle. Other times, just cruising at steady 10-12% throttle which makes me think it's the valvetrain.

No scans yet, just eyeballing it on the predator. Hopefully I'll have HPTuners in about 2 weeks.

Thanks all!
