Default 00-02 PCM swap questions

I'm doing some research before I get my STS kit (I'll be ordering it Friday). I'm a little worried about my 00 PCM so I did a search and found I needed a 02 PCM. My question is when I called my local wrecking yard; they said any 02 PCM out of an avalanche, s-10 and even a van would work. Is this true??? If so, I'm sure the tunes would be different. I also called Allen to see if he would sell me a PCM, and or do a tune for me, not so sure on the HP tuner thing.
Thank you for any input.

An Avalanche or Van PCM *should* work plug-and-play....but an S-10 PCM would definitely be a no-go in terms of plug-it-in-and-go programming

right....

The S-10 PCM could probably be programmed to work with your truck, but I'm not real sure about it

Ya I still might go that route, I cant make up my mind with the HP tuner. I'll have a wide band (dyno jet) ether way.

In my area that means a four hour drive to the nearest dyno tuner.
