some people say yes, some people say no. i have heard that if you switch it out, it'll still be engaged, but the transfer case will stop sending power to it. that being said, i launch in 4wd and switch it out before the 1-2 shift.

Yes, mine will (err, did). I shift it out after the 1-2 shift, I can feel it dis-enguage sometimes... I've left in 4wheel before, I can tell by the end of the track if it came out, Trucks don't seam to like 120+ mph in 4wheel drive...

I often did it with my auto trac case, kinda, I would take off at the lights, hear the back wheels chirp then the front would engage tell I got 100% traction then disengage. 4wd lauch=fun

My old 05 Dmax had the manuel floor shifter and would disengauge. Was easy to shift to. I would shift it after the 1-2 shift, and by about 70MPH it would click, and take off. You could really feel the difference. I figured that the electric shift wouldn't. I will try it on the 03 once I get my ET streets. In 2wd with street tires my truck get's 0 traction below 70MPH. Im thinking with the ET streets I should hook by 30 in 2wd. Thanks guy's for the replies.
