My truck is stock for now with a 4l60e tranny and 3.42 rear. I plan to get a Nelson tune, air intake kit (not sure who yet), a cam, e-fans, 3000 stall, underdrive pullies, and maybe a few other minor mods. What is the difference between the 4l60e and the 4l65e? And if my tranny won't hold, do I have to get a stronger one or can I just beef it up a bit? Thanks in advance.

 

I should also add I don't plan on taking it to the track, so I won't be pushing the tranny too hard.

What is that and how much is it?

 

I put the best Hayden transmission cooler on my truck right when I bought it, it was from the "rapid-cool" line and it a really nice part and a Hypertech w/ shift firmer. At about 50k I put in a "Corvette servo" kit and a Yank 3000 stall. Now at 109k miles and a 6.0 swap, my stock 4L60E is still kicking. Also I changed the fluid and filter about every 20k. Guess I got a freak transmission

With those mods it will go sooner or later, some people have alot better luck than others but with the Reg cab it should hold up awhile if you don't plan on spraying on it or doing slicks. The difference between the 4l60e and 4l65e is that the 65e has a 5 pinion planetary gear rather than a 4 pinion, basically means its stronger. If I were you I'd leave in a little torque management in there and if you get a shift kit, be sure to install it properly or have it done by someone who knows what they are doing.
