It seems like a huge undertaking, but quite frankly its not bad. I'm still ironing out some problems right now, but I'm very happy I made the switch.

Go 80e and never look back.

Yes they did. 2002/2003 2500 Yukon Denali XL. They were also an option on the Denali 1500hd models.

Justin at BlackBear can better explain it as it has been years since I did that particular swop. But from what I recall, the Operating System in my 2002 Tahoe was not compatible with the segment swap. Justin had to do a bit of research to get the combination I needed for my particular model and furnished me a replacement pcm with the needed OS.

I mean no disrespect mr. Duntov , but I can't and won't reccomend a 60e in a truck/ SUV to anyone . I hate to see the OP waste time money not doing right once and be done .
None taken at all. We all have our own opinions based on our own experiences. My experience has been favorable with the 4L60e given the combination I had which was from stock to a fairly healthy n/a 402ci. Do I drive hard? Yeah, but not in a stupid way. The point I guess I am trying to make is that for 90 percent of the guys on this forum with the realistic power they are making, a 4l60e will suffice. Is a 4L80e stronger? Heck yeah, but the question is it needed? For all the "some day I'm gonna" guys that never do follow through on their aspirations, the swop is a waste. But if someone wants to take the time and spend the money, by all means go ahead.

One question that doesn't get asked enough is 'how are you going to use your truck' instead of talking hp/torque. And if going to the track, how often and what type of racing? Grudge match or bracket racing? If bracket racing a Powerglide is the best option for consistent times. Not everything is black and white.

Is there a website to put in your vehicle codes to find out what options you have?

Not trying to high jack your thread but is there a particular year that you should try to get or try to avoid? Or is a 80E and 80E? Also when looking for one at a junk yard how can you tell it in fact is an 80E? I used to work at a junk yard many years ago and found out that there were several yards that were very dishonest.

Here's a good read on the differences between years: 4L80E FAQ

Yukon denali(Yukon) and Yukon denali XL(Suburban) came equipped with the 4l65e trans for 2002/03, in 2001 it was called the 4l60e-hd, all 3 MY had the 6.0 325hp/370tq LQ4 and were AWD. There was never a 3/4 ton GMC Yukon Denal or Yukon XL Denali.

The 1500HD truck did use a 4l80e, because any truck/SUV that is an HD gets a 4l80e trans along with the 300hp/360tq LQ4.

17 pan bolts is an easy way. Most of the time it will have 4l80e stamped on the passenger side of it also.

Yep the 1500hd did, but that wasn't a Denali. That was my point, no Denali came with a 4L80e

I'm not arguing, I was speaking more to the point that there wasnt a Denali 3/4 ton anything. I am agreeing with you when you question Duntov to show you examples of either a 2002/2003 2500 Yukon Denali XL or a Denali 1500HD truck.

You said that you werent "saying that they dont exist" (the Denali 2500 and Denali 1500HD), I am saying they dont exist.

I should have quoted Duntov instead of you.

peace
