Default What's a Dana 60 Super?

Apparently that's what I have and the only limited slip available is some factory part that costs $1300... and apparently is a piece of crap and break often.

I thought I had a Dana 70 but a local rear end shop informed me that my vehicle has a Dana 60 super and I'm better off swapping in a completely different rear end. $$$$$

I'm trying to put a limited slip in since in the snow/sand/mildly moist/high humidity environment my Open differential is Junk and I get stuck all the time.

Any rear-end guru's here and can help me figure this out? Not sure that I want to swap out my whole rear-end just to get a limited slip.

This is what I'm working with, 2006 Chevy Express 2500 Duramax.

Installing a factory limited slip(which they claim they replace all the time) = $1300

Swapping the rear end = $1600

...you gonna pay for it Joseph?

Found this...

The Dana Super 60 is an upgraded version of the Dana 60 front axle.
Differences in the Dana Super 60 versus the regular Dana 60:
Larger and thicker diameter steel tubes (3.75 inches diameter and 1/2 in thick)
Larger ring and pinion which increase the contact area and overall strength.
Larger Universal Joints which increase strength and steering angle.
Super 60s use 1550 Universal Joints.
Net formed spider gears for increased strength.
All made with 35 Spline axle shafts.
I'm guessing the larger ring and pinion is the issue... :/

I doubt it, did you ask what goes bad on them? Maybe its a bearing issue...

I didn't ask them what/why the limited slip breaks, but the problem isn't the rear-end, it's that nobody makes a limited slip for this odd diameter rear-end.

I'm gonna drive down to their shop tomorrow morning and have them visually inspect it. I really have no desire to be swapping rear-ends on this thing if I don't have too. Especially since this thing is considered super beefy.

Ask them what fails in these and what rear end they use for an upgrade.
