Default What Transmission to Buy?

My transmission just blew and im in need of replacing it. I have 2004 4.8 Silverado 2 wheel drive and 2 piece drive shaft.... I have been looking at ebay and other sites, but i would rather see what the Pro's and people with more experience recommend.

Im not pushing no big power or anything like that, but i want a transmission that will be solid and not break down on me again.

i was looking into a price range of 1000-1300....... I might consider a 6.0 in the future(after college 3yrs).

i was considering a mad dog transmission the price seems pretty good.

What do you guys recommend or any other sites that you have had good experience with?

I dont really want to modify my x member or shorten the shaft.

Thanks guys.

Run away from Mad Dog, formerly Outlaw.

Performabuilt, FLT, or Rossler.

Performabuilt and FLT are site sponsors.

performabuilt is just a hair more than the price you mentioned, but well worth the extra 3 or 4 hundred bux. a few of us 11 second trucks have had great luck with performabuilt

more than a few 11 second and a few 10 second trucks run FLT. Both have great rep with their customers.

FLT and Performabuilt both have excellent reputations around here, I'm currently paying off an FLT Level7 65E myself. There are certain things that you get what you pay for and don't want to skimp on...performance units such as engines and transmissions fall into this category. It's been almost a year since I last drove my truck since the trans blew...I could have gotten a junk yard unit or a cheaper built unit and been on the road by now, but I don't want to have to pull my trans on a monthly basis. Do yourself a favor and go with the pros who have built their reputations through years of performance...pay a little more now or a lot later

I'd run another OEM trans.
