Default What rear end?

Ok, here goes.... I am going to narrow the rear on my 05 crew half ton and run a 315/35/20.. mostly because i want the look. I will still tow with the truck on occasion. Since i am going to be buying axles and having the housing narrowed would a heavier duty rear end be better to start with? I plan on running a four link with coilovers and air assist... I would appreciate any comments... and criticism if it is constructive...

Default Help...

Does anyone have any suggestion? Will putting the four link in require the tank to be moved? Surely someone has experience with this..... I would really appreciate some help....

Are you sure you need to shorten the rear?

On an GMT400 youi can tuck a 315/35/17 on a 17x11" rim if you use 7 1/4" BS rim.(dont quote the BS number, but the rim will tuck)

Look into rims.

Default rear

Yes, i would like to narrow the rear to get the deep dish look on the wheel. I am not a big fan on the positive offset look. Want something different to. Was planning on running a 12" wheel with 4.75 backspace... My question is since i am going to cut the housing down should i go ahead and put a heavier rear end in it? Like a 14bolt SF.... Those are cheap and I hear they are much beefier than the stock 10 bolt. The axles are the same cost either way. Just wanting some opinions... I do appreciate you chiming in.

From what I've seen it looks like guys are throwing some decent power at the 10b, but when it comes to weight, like when you're towing, I, personally, have no faith in it. I'm looking into a 14b for my truck, but If you're getting custom shafts already and not going with a ridiculous sized tire or super steep gears, you may be just fine with the 10 bolt. I dunno if that's helpful at all but it's my 2 cents.

It looks like my guy may not have the right stuff (for narrowing) for a 14 bolt so we may have to stick with the 10 bolt... I won't tow with it all the time so i would probably be fine. I just thought i would do the over kill route and be safe. I have found a 14 bolt for 150 bones so its a cheap option and i can sell the g80 rear i have and that would pay for the axles. I would still have to do something with the brakes.

All he has to do is buy a set of center rings for a dana and turn them down. thats what I did. As you have seen I built EVILGMC's rear housing.
