Prep the surface with a wire wheel.
Wipe the surface with rag and break clean or some other non-oily solvent cleaner
get the gloves on and start painting.

Any one Every use PPG's DP90 Epoxy primer on a Frame ???
I just rebuilt a suburban and after the frame repairs were done, I used a Hot water presurewasher to remove the factory wax type coating and also a wax and grease remover once I got it to look like bare metal... I then sent it over to a local sand blaster and had it blasted clean so I could paint it. That also took care of any heavy rust that was present. I just left it in dp 90 since its Like a mat black. Because it is epoxy based it bites into the metal. was thinking about apply a rock gaurd spray from SEM or that but I have never used that stuff. still looking for possiblits for a top coating for log term protection. possibly an epoxy based bedliner spray....
