Default Vig dimensions to flex plate

Okay i have been reading about this for about an hour or two and need yalls input please, i am installing my PI Vig 3200 stall and i have a 5/16" gap between the torque converter and flex plate should i just put some washers in it to get it to the specs that pi recommends or just leave it. They say .60 to .187 is the correct specs. Thanks in advance

I ran mine for years with that clearance. I have an on thread on the subject here somewhere. Its the same clearance as the stock converter in them.

When I ran into the issue PI and FLT got involved. Long story short is they agreed it should not be shimmed. Stock converters have 3/16" clearance designed in. WHY CHANGE IT? The smaller clearance comes from old school setups and has been perpetuated by some converter manufactures not updating their instructions for newer designs.

I honestly don't think shimming one will hurt it either as many have done it. So long as the converter doesn't balloon.

Funny b/c PI even includes shimming it in their install instructions.

Yes it was PI and their instruction sheet that started all of my confusion. They need to change it.

ya they do i ran this converter before when i had it stalled at 2800 and i didn't shime it because they didn't send me a a sheet, but i got it restalled at 3200 and they sent a sheet that said this. I am going to finish putting it all together tommorow but im just not sure what i want to do yet.

exactly. i never shimmed my PI or Yank, although when i had trouble with it, PI did ask me if i had measured the gap and shimmed the converter.
