Default Valve body: School me

Like I said, haha tell me everything there is to know about a valve body (4L60e).

I am pretty certain my trans needs a valve body. I am curious about a few things:

Is it hard to install/remove?
Will I need to devote a day to it or a couple hrs after work?

What year should I look for with metal pistons? (I wanna say it may be the accumulator? Its pretty common to fail in early 00's, so Im told)

I will be doing a shift kit along with it. Should I be ok with reusing the separator plate?

Thanks guys

I also put in a HD-2 kit.... Not bad, I installed a new accumulator pistons aluminum as well and a new pinless forward. I also installed a new separator plate and sonnax 2-3 hd shift valve along with a corvette servo and thorlon check ***** to replace the metal that would wear a hole in the plate. I did it in my garage in phx not bad nice to have a someone help to double check things.... I also ordered a nice click 1/4 torque wrench as well to use. I would go with a new plate. My only had 18,000 miles on it but still showed some wear. I would devote a day as well to take your time and double check your work. I couldn't install the corvette servo unless I installed it in pieces with the pin installed in the truck as it was to long to take out in one piece and hit on the servo's. I used the kent moore tool that holds the cover in and it really helped me out a lot.

Also I ordered everything from a guy who made up the kit for me with everything I wanted. It was around 160.00 or so and he drilled the new plate as well, I just had to install and drive it away. He put together new pins and pistons along with the pinless forward and thorlon check ***** and seperator plates and new one piece seals for the pistons as well. He could provide the corvette servo as well if needed. I am not a guru but could provide help if needed.

48548, I may be interested in using you to crossreference or give me a hand if you dont mind. I plan on getting the valve body hopefully by next month and getting it in ASAP. Got some email's from a buddy of mine I need to review as well.

Here is where I got the kit.... Call Dana up and tell him what you want and he will get everything needed in one box minus the filter and fluid.

I researched a lot of stuff and I made a few mistakes and had to take my vb off a few more times, but I won't make those mistakes again and also FLT was very helpful in advice and they might be able to hook you up with a kit as well, they helped me with a slipping code due to me putting in a valve backwards. Also I have a 2005 silverado ECSB 4x4 that I installed the kit in.
