Default is the trutrac still considered the best?

well i just put my turbo kit on the truck a few weeks ago and have been messing around with it on the street, it's my daily driver and i'm a little concerned about the g80 blowing up on me one day. i've heard mostly good things about the trutrac, but here recently i've been seeing threads about them having a poor design. so my question is, trutrac or the clutch type eaton lsd? factoring in costs, longevity, everything. i don't really abuse my truck at all, so no donuts, maybe just a powerslide around a turn though

I used to worry about my G80. That was 5 years ago. After thousands of hard launches, burnouts and powerslides, I worry no more. It's been taking over 500RWHP for well over two years and I've been punishing it with nearly 600hp for a month now. I think I'll install another one if this one ever goes south. Wanna sell yours?

My "valuetrac" has been holding up with the turbo and around 600 rwhp. It's also my DD so I'm not too hard on it, never sees the track. It seems to be doing it's job, it'll go sideways if I'm in boost in 1st, sometimes in 2nd. In a month or so I'm going to re-gear and I'll inspect the diff to see if it's held up. The trutrac failing threads do concern me though.

Do clutch-type posi's hold up better?

If you do decide to go with the trutrac, and I would not advise against it. First, install it immediately after purchasing it and save your receipt. Always install new C clips, and make sure the plug in the center of the axles fits tight. The most important thing is to pull your cover before the 1 year warranty is up. and do a thorough inspection of the unit to make sure it is working fine. If it isnt fine send it in immediately.

If you want to make it better, put a piece of weld on the gear that the C clip slides in to keep it from spinning and ruining the unit. This will obviously void the warranty.

It isnt a horrible unit, it just has some design flaws.

If i were to do it over, i would just get the one with clutches that is rebuildable

You better buy a lottery ticket or double check you actually have a G80 Lol.

I would never reccomend one with any kind of power , when they break they take gears / bearings and lord knows what else , costing you more money and heartache. I've only broke 3 of them in my career lol.

My tru trac has been fine , I don't have a ton of miles on it , but will inspect it and mod like gadetized suggested .

Not sure what else I would try , prob a clutch type like said above .

Ya, I know, I know. I'm just being cocky now. But really, this thing has been incredible. And the lottery ticket has been bought.
