Default Transmission Shift Cable question

I need some info on the trans shifter cable in my 2000 silverado ,
I was cutting an old bolt of my frame with a grinder/ cut off wheel , the grinder kicked back and put a good cut into my shift cable .

I searched and believe I need the part # 12477640 .

My question is , is my cable a two piece part ? Do I need the whole cable or just the part from the column to the " adjustment section " under the body near the frame ?

The cable that connects from the trans linkage to the " adjustment section" is fine , does it come apart there ?

If it's just as easy I can replace the whole cable I guess .

And where is the best place to get one ? Best I've found is about 78$ on amazon .

It does come apart at the adjustment part. You should be able to buy half. I got one for cheap at a scrap yard a couple years ago, can't remember what I paid though.

Thanks bud ! , I actually saw your post on that , helped me find out it was two pieces . I just need to get the part number for the half I need , unless it's easier to order and setup new cable .

If you can get away with the portion under the truck, you will be much better off. The portion under the dash is sort of a pain to replace.

It's not that bad. Just cramped under there. You have to disconnect it from the shift lever, and I think there's a bracket it's attached to also. Then pull up the carpet and remove the grommet from the floor board.

Thanks , yup I already did all that , just waiting to check Monday to see if just half of the cable is available or if I need to buy the whole thing , what's left is in real nice shape

#12477640 - it contains both halves because they changed the design some time back.
