Default transmission questions

I am in the process of installing an auto, and am having trouble with the converter. I have tried dozens of times, and can only get it in 1/2 an inch, and i know that i need ~1.25". When i rotate it, i can see the 2 tabs on the pump are rotating, which is leading me to believe that it is seated all the way.

The trans/convertor is out of a 4.2 trailblazer, as i assumed that all later 4l60e's are the same, and i wanted a little higher stall. I swapped out the bellhousing and tailhousing so i could bolt up the tcase, and the trans to the motor. Did i royally screw myself in assuming the the two 4l60e's are the same(tb and truck), and that this is just not going to work? Or am i just not seating the convertor right?

Hoping someone has the answers that i want to hear...

Transmissions are the same, no worries there.

Try lifting up and wiggling the pilot on the converter while turning it to seat it all the way.

thats exactly what i wanted to hear. I was sure that they were, but i started to seriously doubt my researching abilities. i guess i will keep trying on the convertor.

Edit:

Well im starting to think that the convertor is seated all the way, but the junk yard game me a bellhousing off of the wrong 4l60e, as mine doesnt have the top hold drilled. Should have caught it, but i just looked at the paper work. Is there actually a difference in the depth of the different bellhousings? I feel like i am trying to find any excuse for it not to be the torque convertor at this point.

measured the depth of the bh at ~6.5. Again, it has no 12 o'clock hole. If someone has an extra one sitting around and has time to measure it it would be much appreciated.

Converter tabs should be 1 1/8" from the bellhousing when fully seated....put a straight edge across the bell housing and measure perpendicular to the converter.

If it's an LS bellhousing it should have a bolt hole at the 12 o'clock position. If it doesn't it's more then likely an older style which are shorter by approx 1/2 inch.

Sounds like you have the wrong bell housing.

Is that true with the 80e's as well? Shorter bell housing...

80's don't have removable bell housings.

I realize, but is there a difference in the depth in the older style and newer style?
