Default Transmission Blew

Happened while I was towing my boat back from the Lake. It never gave any signs it was going it just happened. When i was merging onto the freeway it slipped real bad going into 3rd and i lost OD (it won't engage). Third slips everytime and sometimes doesn't even engage. I was shittin' bricks because i had a few more hills to climb to get home and I had a huge boat strapped to my ***.

Trans lasted ~15K total, 4K with the Radix. You guys think it's worth trying to fix, or i was thinking a FLT Level 5? Any ideas what happened? I need to get that bad boy back on the street for boat season. Trip to Havasu is in a few weeks! Arghhhhh!!!

A couple of things you might want to check before looking for a replacement transmission. Verify that it is full of oil and also scan the vehicle for codes. Maybe it is something simple. With what you have posted it sounds like the 3-4 clutch and the 2-4 band are probably damaged. Might want to drop the pan and see if it has a layer of black material on the bottom of the pan. If so you know what the step is. Vince

Combination of the 3-4 clutch and the band.

Thanks Vince! The first time i dropped the pan, about 3 months ago there was a good amount of clutch material on the bottom of the pan. The clutches looked a little worn and warped and the 2-4 band looked a little burnt. I attributed the material to the "break in" process since it was the first time i dropped the pan. I'll check it out again and the fluid level and color. I never got a CEL, but i'll run codes anyway. If nothing works, i'll be giving you a call

transmissions dont alway set the SES light because of a code. it has to be a certain type of code.
