Haaa ! A good set of pliers makes them more tolerable.

Where did you get the input shaft from?? I'd really like to do this mod, since I found a NP149 case. I just need a lead on the input shaft that fits the 80e.

I've done the swap. Now I'm getting a horrible grinding noise in reverse and decel...

1st input shaft was wrong generation to fit into the planetary. Ordered 2nd gen input shaft with a few less teeth and it fit fine. Noticed original snap ring was too wide. Grinded it down to fit.

Transmission shop tore down both 4l80e and transfer case. Cant find anything wrong. I just got a call that there may be an "HD" version of the 246, is that the different generations/versions?

Part #: 19299088

Thats the part number for the input shaft I'm using now.

I realise this thread is old but I have a question if anyone wouldn't mind.

I have the BW4481 and planning a 4L80E swap. Can't out of the gate use the 4481. Does the input shaft swap work on the 4481 or the 4482? It looks to me that this swap is really meant for the 4wd tcases and not the awd ones.

In the event that it doesn't work out I got a 4wd tcase off a local guy for pretty cheap. It is directly compatible with a 80E but this means I lose my AWD.

I will see if I can dig it up. Just wanted to say if your looking for a complete set up I'll be selling my FLT 4 yank 320omd tcase flywheel and wiring if your interested. Xmsn was just rebuilt 400 miles at most on it same with converter. Got a new DD so it just sits now.

I know this write up is for a 4l60e to 4l80e transfer case. What I’m confused on is are you disassembling the 4l60e transfer case and putting a 4l80e input shaft in that one, or disassembling a 4l80e tc and putting a 4l60e input shaft in? Or is this something completely different?

I used this very same thread for info when I did mine, yes this transfer case was behind a 4L60 and is getting the input shaft replaced to match the 4L80 output shaft. I got mine on eBay for 80 bucks i think.
