I like your fix better RotaryResurrection.

PS the sealant you peeled off in the first page of the thread did not look like the gm stuff posted on this page, looked more like RTV to me. Maybe GM changed it up somewhere along the line.

I'm hoping...GM's fixes aren't always fixes...we'll see. Sonnax offers a revised pump body with plastic over the flanges that rest in the case, but that was out of my price range. FWIW, my clip was in one piece and there wasn't the faintest sign of wear on mine, and it does get used in the winter.
