Default Transamymission

So when my dad took out my transmission he said he broke a plug on the side of it. When it was at FLT being refreshed they checked the plug and it was fine.
Well, now that I'm about ready to get everything put back in. He reveals the part that was broke. It's been sitting in my truck (which i cant get into do to where it's sitting).
So now I have to order this and I'm not sure what its called.

Is it the neutral switch?

They glue the connector in from the factory, so 90% of them break when you take them out. The best way is to heat the connector up some first, then work it out.

This wasn't glued in because i had changed the trans once before.
But the header apparently melted it a bit

I have done 2 transmissions at work and that came off easy non-damaged.

Any ideas what it does and it's importance. Any chance I can get this thing together and run it until that piece comes in?
High hopes, but thought I'd ask.

The newer trucks have a different style connector that doesn't break, I think 04 and up. But the older style is glued in, and ALOT break. Even if you take it off and reinstall it, the glue is still there, and may break the second time out. Trust me, I pull 2 out a day.

It is what tells the cluster what position the transmission is in...but idk what else it does.

Ill get back to you on that haha

EDIT: It wont start. This is the Park, Neutral switch. It needs to be replaced first.
