Default Trans Swap Starter Problem

Got a buddy of mine that just swapped an NV4500 into his 2002 5.3L 1500 Avalanche and is having a rather big problem...

He used a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch (that comes with a flywheel) for a 2002 2500HD Pick Up with a 6.0L Motor that would have had an NV4500, he then got the GM factory crank spacer as required. Everything bolted together just fine... BUT! The starter is not engaging the flywheel, he said is about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch short of reaching the teeth on the flywheel. He got the matching 6.0L starter and same problem...

For My ZF-6 swap I used a stock 6.0L Flywheel and Crank Spacer and the 6.0L starter works fine... My only idea is the starter is wrong or Centerforce sent the wrong set...

Any Ideas?

Try it without the spacer? That is a good place to start imo.

Yea, that is what i thought too but in the photo of the Flywheel it looks like it needs the space like the factory Flywheel did... Oh well guess he is going to have to tear it all apart, that sucks!

FYI: It turned out his 2002 truck had a 2001 motor. So took the crank spacer out and everything went together as it should...

I was the first with a ZF6 6-spd swap in my Avalanche, he is a friend of mine and he blew up his 4L60e a month ago. after riding in my truck he decide he wanted a manual but, he went with the NV4500 5sp for his truck.
