Question Is tranny to old

I have a friend that has about 130k on his 02 chevy. he wants to put a shift kit in it. He ordered a W4Me tune and it theres alot of tranny slip when he punches it at about 30mph. could the tranny be too worn out for an aggressive tune and a shift kit, or might the shift kit help. I told him that with that many miles he should have it rebuilt then install the shift kit. what do you guys think?

I would look into getting a new that is all done up already. It sounds like your friends trans on it's way out. Here is a link to our web page www.finishlinetrans.com. We build strictly what your talking about. Hopefully some of the members on this forum can give you some feedback on us. Take care, Vince.

You want some feedback, sure thing lol.

Well i didnt get a transmission from you. But i did talk to chuck twice, and he helped me a lot picking out parts combinations for me. I rebuilt / built my 4L65 myself granted it took 2 weeks. But if i ever kill the thing, i wouldnt hesitate at all to get one from FLT. The guys there are a pleasure to talk to, and they really know their stuff.

How hard is it to rebuild a tranny. I was thinking of doing it myself, Ive been told its pretty straight forward.

I found it easy, however i've never been afraid of taking anything apart. However, if you've never done one before consider this.

- Granted i dont have the special GM tools for this, i have several grand in tools at my disposal.
- My vehicles service manual (Helm) Invaluable.
- And the 2003 Unit Repair Manual (Transmissions/Transfer Cases)
- And a very strong mechanical intuition helps

I would NOT even attempt to do so without the Unit Repair Manual. Without that i dont think i would have even gotten the thing back together.

Manual Wise you can get em from Helm Publications direct. www.helm.com

While the unit repair manual isnt that bad price wise, be prepared for a triple digit tag on your vehicle service manual.
