Default Tranny missing a detent!

I installed a 4L80E and was setting up the linkage. I shifted through the gears on the trans and it clicks through P-R-N-OD-3-2 and that's it. Are there some 4L80E transmissions that don't have the last gear setting? My 60E has P-R-N-OD-3-2-1 and so does my dad's '03 4L80E. Do I have a problem with the transmission or do I have one that has one less detent? This is very strange.

It's something about using the 60E arm on the 80E shift shaft. I'm pretty sure you can't use the 80E arm with the cable your truck has.

After I typed that, I'm sure that I'm wrong, but close to explaining what your problem is. Somebody smarter than me will post up soon.....

Even with the cable off, and shifting it through the gears underneath the truck, I still come up one short. I won't sleep tonight thinking about this.

That's what I was thinking! Did they even make them with electronics?

Hmm, maybe it's a limited production Canadian edition or something. Eh?

I really don't have the answer you're looking for. I'm just bored, and a little beer buzzed. Free bump for ya!

The guy told me it was out of an '05 Sierra. I know where he lives.

I'm wondering if there was a year prior to '99 that used the 80E but had a shift pattern like P-R-N-OD-2-1. Dear God, I hope not.
