I would tune it so that when you are 90-95 or 70-80% throttle, it unlocks.
Oh ok I gotcha now. Ya I agree it for sure leave it unlocked under stress I meant at normal cruising if I could lock it since the trailblazer is heavier and I don't make crazy power anyway. Common sense says yes but I'm just curious.

I have a stock TB converter in my extended cab behind a cammed lq9. I tow with it all the time and no issues. I don't race it so no 60ft times. Works pretty well for a daily driver though. I paid $50 for it. Cheap upgrade if you're pulling the transmission for other reasons.

Circle-D uses the TB core to build their 278mm (11") budget converter. They change the angle of the blades on the pump to determine different stall speeds up to 3200, add an anti balloon plate, heavy duty clutch and stiffen up the bearing retainer. I beat on mine a lot but wish I had a little more stall, they say it's good to 500rwhp.

If was on a tighter budget I would definitely run the TB over a stock truck converter until I had the funds for more quality.

The 11" TB (and circle -d) has more lockup clutch area than the (non billet) so called "race" 9" converters... lose the clutch... lose the transmission.

And you shouldn't lockup a single disc 9" either.
And the 9" converter is rarely (if ever) recommended for a full weight truck...especially one that sees street duty.
Your best bet if you want a cheap converter that stalls better is an 11" (trailblazer) pump with a full size 12" lockup disc. It's a bastard child converter that is custom built. Usually about $450 and stalls up to 3200 just like the circle D (because after that you lose SOO much efficiency trying to get them to stall any higher without any significant changes...they just drive horrible)
