Default Tow Haul Mode Quit

My tow haul mode has stopped working. Has anyone heard of this? It has been working fine pulling the boat and today it stopped. I can push the button and the light on the dash will not light either. I was thinking maybe the light went out but tranny shifts normal. It's not going into tow mode at all. Any idears.

Thanks

This is a guess. I think the tow/haul button on the shifter broke.

I would concur with BlackLM7, the switch is most likely broke. Although, the dealer might find a BCM code stored that corresponds to a switch malfunction. But whether or not that occurs varies by model year, PCM/BCM combination.

Most likely the wire has snaped going from the button to the bcm. Take off the boot, at the base of the shift lever, and you will prolly find a snaped wire somewhere. Re-solder, and your back in business. This has happened to me before it was just a broken wire.

Oh the wire should be a single orange wire.

My 2000 silverado did the exact same thing. I pulled back the rubber boot at the base of the shifter at the column, and there was the orange wire broken in half. It was an easy fix.
Hopefully yours is that simple as well.

I have a similar problem but I do not think its related to wire issue. Here is what happened: (2000 Silverado Z71)

Tow/haul mode was previously working fine. I was using the truck at work to listen to music for a few days while we set up our receiving docks. I made sure to start and use the truck once in a while so the battery wouldn't discharge too much. However, the battery was the original and over 7 years old, so by the end of the 2nd day the truck turned over very slowly. It started, but sputtered right away before the idle evened out. When this happened, I noticed that the tow/haul indicator was lit on the dashboard and pushing the button would not turn it off. I shut off the truck and restarted it. The light was off on the dashboard, but pushing the button would not activate the light or tow/haul mode. Its been that way for the last 2 months now. Did something happen when the battery ran down and the truck barely started to mess up tow/haul mode? Is there a fuse for the switch perhaps?

The battery was replaced the next day, btw.
