leaving work yesterday...jumped into an opening in traffic in front of the store...
prolly half throttle...stumbles...loud noise
revs high...nothing...pull over into driveway next door(how ironic...a funeral home)...
no 1, 2, 3, D or R...nothing
I'm sitting in an uphill driveway so I put it in P...it holds so I'm thinking...well, it's not the diff...or the output shaft, right?
to double check I put it in D w/ the PB on and look underneath @ the DS...not spinning...
thinking pump now...
called the hook and took the roll-back ride of shame to the house...
frustrated enough to not mess with it last night
not a happy camper!
this morning I check the trans fluid cold...motor not running...crank it up and re-check fluid level...way lower...pump's working
converter? input shaft?

sounds like input shaft to me, mine broke on a 4-3 downshift at about 2/3 throttle. bang then free reved no movement in any gear, pulled a cooler line and cranked it over. fluid shot out . tow truck driver said maybe i should talk to his boss about some kind of frequent flyer miles ha ha. thats when you know its gettin bad.
best of luck to ya and hope it gets fixed soon.

Vince-
if it was the output shaft...
wouldn't the truck be able to roll w/ the trans in P as long as the PB was disengaged?
that's what I was thinking anyway...
either usually take out anything else with it?

It would depend on where the break in the shaft is. In most cases the break is infront of the rear carrier so it does effect the parking function. However reverse sometimes will work. This will depend on the damage to the rear planet. Is some cases it will work and others it binds. Damage with a broken output shaft is never good. Lots of broken parts. It sounds like an input shaft might be your issue here however I would not rule out the output.

I took the same "RIDE OF SHAME" this morning at 5:30 AM
I put my new stall and tranny in this weekend and didn't get the upper cooler line to snap in all the way, but I 'm back up and running. Hope you get it resolved soon.
