Default tire size

Got a 3/4 drop on extended cab truck looking to run some 22x9.5 wheels what tire size should I run was thinking 285 35 but 265 35 is much cheaper of a tire. I don't want my rim to not have any sidewall protection but what does only. 7 inches difference really make

The good thing is that you already know the 2 most popular sizes for 22s & drop. Personally I would go with the 285s but I feel ya on the price thing. I went thru the same thing with my 20s. Everybody said 275/45s would rub & that I'd have to run 275/40s. the 40s were 2X the price of 45s. I gambled & went with the 45s & haven't rubbed yet.
265 is gonna have a 10.43" width, that's less than an inch wider than the rim. I think it's gonna make it kinda look like the tire's not fat enough. 285 is gonna have 11.22" width.
With my tires, 275/45/20s(10.83" wide) with an 8.5" width wheel, the sidewalls look flush with the rim, in other words, the sidewalls don't look like they're bulging.
Hope this helps.
I say save up some coin & get the 285s.
