time to swap to the 80
#1
Finally gonna break down and do the 60-80e swap. I have an 80 out of an 05 van and having it gone through n freshened up. Ibonly have a couple questions.
1. Will it be easier to use the "tuned by frost 60-80 conversion harness" or just do the repin and segment swap???
2. The crossmember... Is there one that i can get from a salvage yard and bolt right in or should i just cut and modify the one i have?
3. Which front yoke will i need? A part # or link would be sweet.
Between working 7 days a week and only having my phone to do some research here and there when possible im kinda at a disadvantage not taking the time to research it myself so all help would be greatly appreciated. O and truck is 04 rcsb thanks

2. The crossmember will have to be cut and welded. The difference on the 3/4 ton trucks is that the mounts for the crossmember are located differently on the chassis than the 1/2 ton.
3. No idea

Assuming that you are 2wd, you are in luck because I did this swap 2 days ago.
1. do not buy an aftermarket harness! all you have to go is swap 2 wires in the Canon plug and leave one out. then get a connector from the parts store for the input shaft stored sensor and run 2 writes to the pcm ( you need to add 2 pins to the red plug. # 22 & 23 I think). that's all of the wiring you have to do. I'd that's worth $150 to you then have at it.
2. for the crossmember you just need to make 2 cuts and cut the middle out (wider than the trans). you'll need 2 pieces of steel that are 1/4in thick 4in wide and 10in long. once you have the 80 bolted up then starch the middle part of the k member to the trans mount and get everything level. track in the steel to connect then, remove and weld completely. it essentially moves the mount back about 6 1/4 inches.
3. you'll use the stock 80e slip yoke and the stock driveshaft. connect the two with a precision 447 u joint.
4. you'll also have to lengthen the rear oil cooler line by cutting it and adding I'm about 6in of rubber trans house. the front just had to be straightened out a bit too reach. I used the stock van dipstick tube.
get a tune for the 80 and you are good to go!

you will need a turbo 400 short yoke, then you can use your stock driveshaft, no need to cut it. i bought the tuned by frost harness, easy, simple, and runs off the 60e tune, so you dont have the low speed lock up.
