Default Time for brakes

I have a 2004 Yukon Denali with 73,000 mile on it. Its time for some new brakes. Just wondering how much am i looking at in parts if i do it myself? I have never done brakes on a truck but i've been working on cars my whole life. Is it pretty straight foward? If it over my head i will just take to the dealer, my buddies dad owns a Gmc dealer 2 miles from my house. They could do it for cost.

Front brakes, rear brakes, or both? Do you want GM parts or aftermarket replacments?

I would go with AC Delco or Raybestos. Raybestos makes the same pad in the same grade only it costs less. I went with ceramic brake pads on my 99 which is what it came with and on my 95 I put ceramics on it which wasn't what it came with. On the 95 I noticed a pretty big change in stopping power. Before my brakes just faded into oblivion from any sort of high speed panic stop. Now it at least gives me the feeling I may stand a chance in hell if a suicide deer jumps out in front of me.

The only thing is if you get the Raybesto's or most aftermarket pads they don't come with the little tin pieces that clip onto the caliper bracket where the pads go. Honestly not sure what those do other then maybe eliminate some brake pad chatter. Most of the time they are reusable though.

I had my front and rear rotors turned $10.00ea. Rear pads-Wagner (Federal-Mogul) ceramic $54.99. Front pads-O'reilly ceramic $34.99, because the Wagner fronts weren't in stock. With tax total $141.67. You could do it for less with the storebrand rear pads.
