Default Thinking of swapping to a 14 bolt have a question

Well, my TrueTrac decided to self destruct from normal use, so I am crunching some numbers to make a 14 bolt work. I will be looking this week unless someone in the area knows of one for sale. 4.10/3.73 would work

My one question I have that I couldnt find is the length of the pinion. It appears that the axle is a direct swap (if you get the Vmax axle), but I would like a measurement to be certain. Since the ring gear is 1" bigger, I would think it would move the pinion 1/2" forward, and that would be with the same pinion length. I can only guess at this point, but is the length from the center of the tube to the tip of the yoke the same length? The reason I ask, is that my driveshaft is extremely tight. I dont think I could make a 1/2" less distance work without getting the driveshaft cut.

At this point I am going to try and find a direct swap rear end. If I can't find one, I will go with the 88-98 OBS conversion. Brick, if you are reading this, do you still make the flanges to give me the 2 1/2" that I would need them moved out? Also, who is using the LSD in their swap, howw do you like it? How many miles do you have on it?

I have a 14 bolt from a 2wd SS truck, and it was a direct swap with a conversion u-joint. My truck had rear discs, and the 14 bolt had drums, so I swapped them out. It took about 2 hours total, counting pulling the axels on both to swap brakes.

On an Extended cab Vmax or VHO the drive shaft is 5/8 Shorter. The axle center line stays the same.

The rest of the AXN Axle housing has all the brackets in the same spot.

My official 9.5 Thread has all the measurements you should need. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...thread-467473/

I have the factory G80 in my VHO but I would like to Swap to the LSD.

I just ordered a 14 bolt with disk brakes and 4.10 gears. It was for an SS truck. Hopefully it will be everything I need. I assume I will have to shorten my shaft.

Sorry but 14 bolts did not come with disc brakes or 4.10's in an SS. The RPO option code would be AXN and it would be drums with a 3.73.

AWD SS had a 10 bolt with disc and 4.10's

The only way to get 4.10's in an AXN would be an 06 or 07 classic V-Max that was Probaly 4x4 optioned and they still had drum brakes.

Doesn't the GMT900 AXN axle still fit under the GMT800's without any modification? If that is the case for sure there is a myriad of them with discs. 4.10's would be 07 and 08 only however.

Well now im more confused than I was when I started. Lol. He said according to the description it is a 14 bolt rear end with disk brakes that was for an 04 truck. I had told him to look it up for an SS. Maybe they listed it wrong. Knowing my luck it was listed wrong and it will take all year to get another.

Probably sending you a diff for a 1500 HD, lol. Mind you in 2004 there is no such thing and only 2500 light duty models. Not that a wrecking yard is probably that technical.

I was actually thinking they were going to send me an axel with 8 lugs. I guess we will see when it shows up.
