Is there any benefit to going to a stand alone transmission control unit(4L80E)?

Question Is there any benefit to going to a stand alone transmission control unit(4L80E)?

(* fits 4L60E & 4L80E with used with custom installation where an aftermarket controller is used to command the transmission. )

or is this even possible?

do you know there is a pic up of a shifter?

you can do that shifter if you wanted. i think they even make a taller version for trucks. i dont think you will need a stand alone tranny controler just to use that shifter.

i think going with the stock pcm to run the tranny is a little cheaper and cleaner. i can't think of any benifit to a seperate controler.

I am running that same shifter on my 4l80e. no probes other than mr tranny was acting up from day one (not due to the shifter)

what do you guys do about the shift indicator on the dash? And why do you need a controller? Or more to the point, what is a controller?

I can name 1 good reason why to go to a stand alone controller (maybe), you can install the lower first and second gear. I have been thinking about installing a set of lower first and second gear when I rebuild the tranny in my truck but not for sure if the computer can be reprogrammed for the lower gears.

when I get the 4l80 rebuilt(or do it myself) this will be something I SERIOUSLY look at doing, among other things

Cool

If you install the Gear Command Shift Pack that comes with the Transgo HD2 would you need a separate controller?

Unless someone figures out a way to wire it up it would be on the B&M shifter housing, just not electronically.
