Default TH400 Converter

I have an 88 RCSB with a built 350 engine and a built th400 with factory stall and 3.90 gear. The engine puts out about 420-435 hp. My question is will getting a bigger converter help with burnouts. It will smoke the tires in 1st gear but as soon as it hits 2nd thats it, just seems to lose it. I was thinking of getting a 3000-3200 stall. Just wondering if this would wake it up and help it out.
